MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - From domestic assault to "obstructing a passageway," three former Memphis Tigers basketball players have been in hot water with police. . Jeremy Hunt, Wesley Witherspoon, and Clyde Wade were all in a Shelby County courtroom Monday facing criminal charges.
Wesley Witherspoon was arrested in downtown Memphis early Monday morning. According to police documents, officers were clearing the scene of a fight at Second and Beale. Once the fight ended, Witherspoon and several others were standing in the middle of Second Street and refused to get back on the sidewalk. Witherspoon was charged with Obstructing a Highway or Passageway, but the charges were later dropped at a May 7 court appearance.
Former Tiger Jeremy Hunt, who has been playing in Greece, was arrested for domestic assault after an incident with his girlfriend at her Cordova apartment. Police were called to the Woodchase Apartments just before 6 a.m. on May 5. Hunt's girlfriend told officers that they were arguing when Hunt tried to choke her, then pushed her into the wall and tried to head-butt her twice. He has since been released on bond. Coincidentally Hunt was already out on bond on DUI and Aggravated Assault charges stemming from an early morning crash last October that sent a man to the hospital.
Another former Tiger, Clyde Wade, made a May 7 court appearance stemming from a March 13 incident with the mother of his twins. The police affidavit states that the victim told officers Wade slung her around by her hair and beat her with several various household items. Police also noted that the victim had a bloody lip, a bruised neck and a knot on her forehead. Wade was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault, but has pleaded not guilty.
