Game Plan Needed to Curb Rampant Home Burglaries

When Mayor Wharton heard Memphis has more than 760 residential break-ins a month, he said the MPD needs to break up some things it's doing to tackle the problem. Now police aren't too happy about Wharton's input.

puhLEASE GAME PLAN = GO TO WALMART - BUY PUMP ACTION SHOT GUN. STOP BEING VICTIMS. If more criminals got shot breaking into homes, they'd reconsider. Tougher sentencing on crimes is a repeat subject and has done NOTHING to curb crime - OBVIOUSLY that is NOT what is needed.

Tougher sentencing is what is needed most of all. Put these thieving thugs behind bars and let them rot there.

First off, the police can't stop crimes. Nor are they responsibile for the number of crimes. This comes from society and culture. Lots of kids today grow up in single parent homes with no discipline. The entitlement system in place in the school system today compunds the problem. The culture today is to get all you can for free. Liberalism at its best. Liberals can't recognize the difference between RIGHTS and ENTITLEMENTS. This distorted way of thinking and governing will be the final nail in our country's coffin. Think I am just a nut job? If so you have no idea how society works. Kids are stealing because they want fancy clothes, fast cars, and spending money. Their single parent (mom) doesn't have any money. She is on welfare. Collecting 'entitlements'. No one today is taught to work and the school system doesn't give kids the tools they need to be competitive in the work force. Discipline is gone. But they are taught that the government will give them 'free' food, 'free' housing, 'free' healthcare, 'free' etc. But when one of these people asks why don't I have any money, Obama tells them its because evil white people have taken it from them and that is how they got rich. So vote for me and I'll tax them and take all I can from them and you'll be better off. Stopping these kinds of crimes starts at home with parenting, discipline, and teaching morals. It means rejoining the real world where nothing in life is free, you are responsible for your actions, and understanding that big government takes away your freedoms and rights. If you are like me, I am fed up with government taking more and more of my hard earned money and giving to all those non-working 'entitled' people. They get my money for doing nothing (rewarded) and I am taxed (punished) for being successful. Then after getting our money, they break into our homes and steal from those of us that work. More government and more police won't stop any of these crimes. Only we the people can do that.

Game plan ?...... How's this one START PUNISHING THE CRIMINALS! DON'T LET THEM WALK OUT OF THE COURT ROOMS WITH A SLAP ON THE HAND. Bring back the chain gangs take away tvs the college educations and every other perks these criminals have make them work, no food no bed no nothing let them starve . Bring back the P farm they are criminals, wild animals on two feet . Nothing more! try that for a game plan!

The mayor should have an input as to what occurs within the MPD. This city's officials does need to address the crime that has become far too rampant in Memphis. Not just burglaries but robberies as well as all the other crimes committed daily against citizens and visitors alike. The courts are way too lenient on these criminals. There are far too many of them appearing in courts upon their arrest with long rap sheets that are just scooted through for weeks while out on streets still doing same thing! Many have older cases in other divisions and still get low bonds. These courtrooms need a lot of readjustments that must be considered and FAST!

Other than the obvious lack of support police officers have from the department and the city, there is another major problem. Our judicial system is to soft on criminals, especially cases that are felonies. Juvenile burglars (responsible for a large number of break ins) that are convicted of second and third burglaries are sent away with a slap on the wrist. Adult criminals may serve time for repeated felony offenses, but only a couple of years until they are paroled out back into the city to break into more houses. It is rediculous that an offender convicted of over ten felonies is released after a minimal sentence. Criminals in our city know this. They know that an already disheartened police department has no teeth in the end. If we had a firm three strikes rule enforced, and we actually supported our police officers, there would be less burglaries.

Why the immediate confrontational attitude from the MPD? ...and any cop that doesn't feel like he or she is being compensated well enough is free to go elsewhere.

"Thank you for calling the MPD. We will address one of the most terrifying things that could happen in your life - an intruder in your home - when we ensure that all of the money that we can squeeze out of the drivers in the city is collected. Until then, our officers will be tied up ensuring a non-problem is addressed. Thank you for continuing to pay your taxes and our salaries for our continued poor performance, even if you never get the service you actually need...."

my home was broken in as well... it was kids that did it... when we were in court to find out what was going to happen. we found out that nothing was going to happen. the kids are back out on the streets causing trouble. what good is it to let these kids get away with robbing and breaking in houses?? way to go mayor.... make the d.a. punish the kids...
