Herenton set Memphis back decades. He was the worst thing to happen to this city since the Yellow Fever Epidemic. The city government needs to do more things that make tax-paying productive people want to move TO Memphis, not out of it. The Overton Square project is certainly a best practice, but much more is needed, such as making the nearly defunct airport useful to Memphians again, doing more to combat property crime, and lowering property taxes.

I lived in Memphis from 1974 to 1996, and it was a Wonderful place to live and grow up. So much History and musical culture. Used to ride my motorcycle all over Midtown, Med Center, Beale, at 3am and never felt unsafe. Went back this last September for the Emmylou Harris Concert in Overton Park, (and it was awesome) But I drove through Overton Square, and I almost cried. I have so many fine memories of what was; Pub Crawl, Solomon Alfred's, Silky's,....and now it looks like a Methadone Clinic and Homeless Shelter. Willie Herrinton was the worst thing that ever happened to Memphis, and this new Mayor is just as bad. At least MEMPHIS gets lots of exposure on First 48. Bring back Wyeth Chandler! ....or maybe I will move back and run for MAYOR.
