MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Crews worked to repair a gas leak at Poplar Avenue and Union Extended Wednesday afternoon.

The gas leak started around 2:00pm on February 8, 2012 when a contractor hit a gas main. Traffic on Union Extended and Collins was diverted around the intersection at Poplar Avenue.

Roman Palace hair salon, the Bank of America and an office building at 2600 Poplar were evacuated as a precaution.

The Memphis Fire Department and utility crews stabilized the area a few hours later. No injuries were reported.
