MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - National gospel recording artists and Memphis' finest are organizing a fundraiser for the family of a Memphis police officer who was killed in the line of duty.

Officer Martoiya Lang was shot on December 14 while serving a drug warrant. She left behind four daughters, ages 14, 13, 12 and 2. Friday night there will be a fundraiser gospel concert in South Memphis, put together by Lang's fellow Organized Crime Unit officers.

Gospel recording artist, Courtney Franklin, will be among the performers Friday night. He says he didn't hesitate to volunteer his time and talent. He says, "It's going to be an explosive time, not only with singing but people are going to share their heart concerning this officer and what she meant to this community."

Detective Therman Richardson, who also sings with the department's Peace Makers gospel choir, says, "This is something we wanted to do and it's important to each and every officer that is assigned to that unit."

The gospel concert to benefit the family of Officer Martoiya Lang will be Friday, December 28 at 6:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church on Elvis Presley Blvd. The concert is free but they will accept and encourage donations.

Sorry for this officer's death-especially for her kids. now what i hear is there is a big family fight over the custody of the kids and the $$$ of course. daddy now is really wanting the kids, hummm, wonder why???? of course, the officer's parents want them too so wonder where they are going to end up? prob with dad, from the tv interview, dad does not seem to be a real interested father-until the subject of money came up. according to public information in the courts, he seems to have a long arrest record. no wonder she wanted a divorce... what a big mess-thing s are bad enough for the kids but now a bigger mess with the money. good luck to the kids involved.
