BINGO! Let's have homeless people work in the animal shelter! They can even sleep in their own kennels and eat the animals after they are "put down". 2 birds, 1 stone. Plus they will probably do a better job.

Why not build a first shelter for the growing homeless population. I am sick as hell seeing my tax dollars providing shelter for worthless dogs and cats. I am sure the people responsible for this new shelter are all christians. I am not a christian and this is why I have more concern for homeless people over worthless dogs and cats.

Aside from experience, I think the best qualification for getting a job there is to be Ray Ray's cousin. I see your point JeffersonTao, but your view is a little narrow on this one. The people who work at the shelter aren't responsible for the deaths of these animals, society is.

Time Traveler, I must ask the obvious: How does somebody who genuinely cares for animals, especially cats and dogs, work in a place that is a death camp for pets? How does one love and care for them, putting feelings aside, in that couple of weeks before they are put to death? Why even feed them in that environment? This shelter, like all the others that systematically kill animals for being homeless, are doomed to fail from day one. The only people who could work in that environment would have to be heartless, just like we've been seeing for years at this facility. The very concept is flawed and unworkable.

I keep hearing on T.V. that they are looking for experienced staff to hire. Problem is, are the experienced staff the only one's there now ??? ...... Experience has to start somewhere. I remember that from earlier years in my life when I didn't have experience but was qualified by education alone. Well, that's not the only tool to qualify a person to work in a Shelter Service. They need to assess the importance of applicants, and hire Supervisors that understand why groups like S.O.S. care about the welfare, stopping abuse, and excessive euthanizing of truly adoptable pets. Background checks should be mandatory. Having a love for pets has got to be mandatory. People can be trained, when the administrator's and Supervisor's are experienced. Administrators, and Supervisors ~ Should have a clear record of past experience in this field, as well as the routine background checks. Perhaps someone more skilled than myself, could look over their employment manuals - and go through the standard procedures. Then, present suggestions for change in the Standards of Hiring, and daily operations as needed. - Hopefully an outside sources like SOS can accomplish this, as well as search and compare other Shelters Policies and procedures. I'm almost sure this procedure has been done by someone. At least, That's this "one mans opinion" anyway ! ! !
