MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A man was arrested on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, around 12:30 a.m. after police received a call about someone in the South Memphis area driving erratically.
An affidavit says 27-year-old Kevin Peoples was found driving a sports car, swerving from side to side and with a tint cover over the license plate, near Holmes Road and Tulane Road when he was pulled over. While police were talking to Peoples, they smelled a strong odor of pot on him.
Peoples told police he had been smoking at a friend's house before getting in the car. Police saw a a styrofoam cup sitting between Peoples' legs, and Peoples told them he had a loaded gun sitting in the driver's side door. One of the officers recognized the smell in the styrofoam cup as codeine, mixed with apple cranberry juice and otherwise known as "Purple Drank".
Police also found a large stack of cash, totaling $4,162, in Peoples' possession.
Peoples was arrested and charged with Possession of a handgun while under the influence, public intoxication and more.
