MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - In a hair-raising crime, four guys grab $5,000 worth of hair extensions from a beauty supply store and take off.
The suspects smashed a glass window at C & C Beauty Supply in Raleigh last Wednesday night.
"A thief will do anything," said Mia Freeman, who works at the store. "It was bad. Because I live in this area."
Surveillance video from the store shows the four men run into the store. The first man is wearing a ski mask. The four run straight for a side wall, stealing more than 60 hair extension kits, retailing between $80 and $100 each.
"It is probably going to hit the streets, I don't know if it is going to make it this way, but they could take that hair anywhere," said Marisa Dawson, who manages Talk of the Town Salon on South Main in Downtown Memphis.
Dawson, who's been cutting hair for nearly two decades, worries about what this could mean for customers.
"What that is going to do is make us have to pay more, and I think that is very unfair," she said.
A manager at the store said the suspects were in the store for 50 seconds.
"I guess anything that is worth something will attract the right thief if you know what I mean," Dawson said.
