MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - It looks like a historic midtown Memphis building will soon be history.

The women's civic group, The 19th Century Club, auctioned off its building Thursday.

The mansion, which sits on the corner of Union and Watkins, went for $550,000 and word is, the new owner plans to demolish the historic landmark.

The building has been empty for years and in desperate need of renovations.

There was hope that whoever purchased the building would restore it. Local groups are vowing to fight the demolition.

Whoever bought the property should control its use, demolition or no. Even the Communist Chinese Party wouldn't try to preserve this place as a museum. Any busybody fatso who wants to try should get her and her friends' checkbooks out and buy the place.
