MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - All the buzz in midtown Memphis was at Hamilton Smythe III's house, where a colony of honeybees was removed from between the walls.

Smythe told The Commercial Appeal he borrowed a stethoscope after he saw bees swarming around a bay window. He heard a steady buzz within the walls.

A crew of contractors and amateur beekeepers spent Tuesday afternoon removing the errant colony.

Beekeeper Daylon Cannon estimated the colony at between 40,000 and 60,000 bees. He said the color of the oldest part of the honeycomb showed that they had been there for a few years.

Builder Tom Archer was taking the bees to his rural home near Marion, Ark.

He planned to return to make certain that the queen was among the bees removed.
