SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - Hundreds of Newt Gingrich supporters showed up in Southaven Thursday night to hear the Republican presidential hopeful speak at a campaign rally at the Landers Center.

Newt Gingrich arrived about 15 minutes after the scheduled start time of 8 p.m. Organizers made sure everyone had a "Don't Believe the Liberal Media" sign.

Despite the bad weather, Carol Farrell made the trip from Coldwater, Miss. to the Landers Center in Southaven to support the man she wants to see become the next President of the United States, Republican hopeful Newt Gingrich. "He's my man," she said. "I think he'd be great because what you see is what you have."

Ferrell was one of a crowd estimated at a couple of hundred that came to see Gingrich. Farrell said, "I think we should support Newt; we should be voting for him."

That's a sentiment shared by Don Daniel, founder of the Tea Party of Mississippi. "I think Gingrich has those core values, he'll be an excellent president."

Daniel says he likes Gingrich's plan for $2.50 gas. His belief in Gingrich is unwavering. "If you're going to walk through a mine field find someone who's been there. Newt has been there and he's the man that can do that for us."

Daniel was hoping more people would have turned out at the campaign rally. He says the rain is no excuse for not coming. "This is more important than getting wet," he said.

Not to Desoto County resident Merle Cowie, who told abc24.com, "I wouldn't walk across the street to see Newt Gingrich."

Strange, Santorum has been carrying the states ranked lowest in education and Newt has been filling in the middle road (Romney is winning in the highest ranked states). Since MS ranks a consistent 51st (the studies count DC) you would think that Mr. Frothy Mix (Google what a santorum is) would be No. 1 in MS.
