MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A hunter has been found mortally wounded in East Tennessee.

Authorities said 45-year-old Ricky E. Arnold of Mountain City died at a hospital a few hours after people on a Johnson County road found him wounded beside his vehicle on Wednesday.

Johnson County Sheriff Chris Mathes said it appears a gunshot wound to Arnold's head was the result of a hunting accident, but an autopsy was ordered, according to the Johnson City Press.

Mathes said the upward angle of the bullet wound indicates the .22-caliber rifle discharged as Arnold set it down.
Arnold had a hunting license. A crossbow was also found near his vehicle.

Deputies have not found any witnesses to the shooting.

Though it doesn't pertain to this story at all, as he was obviously hunting something small, like squirrels, to be using such a small rifle, the local deer population has no predators and actually needs hunters to keep them in check. think about how bad these hunters are when you hit a deer going 70 down the hwy, and it tears your face off along with the roof of your car. Though I'm not personally into shooting animals, it's not as black and white as some would like to think. . . dang hippies.

And some of these same bozos are the ones going around preaching the "sanctity of life". It would be a joke if it were not so disturbing.

Anyone who gets some macho thrill out of slaughtering animals deserves all the bad karma that results. It is disgusting.

Sad, You should always have ANY weapon pointed in a SAFE direction SAFETY FIRST. After you're done hunting, fishing etc.. if possible unload your long weapons before leaving the site. Thank GOD that there weren't any children present to witness that tragedy..

Karma is a wonderful thing and even works for deer! This creep got to see first hand what it felt like to be a deer. Classic poetic justice!
