JACKSON, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - A Huntingdon High School teacher has been charged with statutory rape, the second teacher in West Tennessee to receive such a charge this month.

Huntingdon Special School District Superintendent Pat Dillahunty said 23-year-old Daniel Clark Doyle was arrested Friday and has been suspended without pay pending an investigation of allegations of misconduct, according to The Jackson Sun.

Dillahunty said she couldn't provide details. Doyle was released Friday on $5,000 bond.

According to the school's website, Doyle started work at Huntingdon in August as a Spanish teacher and assistant boys' basketball coach.

Earlier this month, Amy Lynn Howell, an English teacher at Chester County High School, was charged with statutory rape by an authority figure and sexual battery by an authority figure.

School isn't what it used to be. My female teachers were mature church women that would smack you with a ruler in a minute. Their presence demanded respect, or else. No calculators, no car salesman math to pass EVERY student, and all subjects were taught in one classroom. Students passed or failed on their own merits. Teacher 'aides' were fresh out of college and learned to teach by these accomplished women. It would appear to me that the 'old' way was far better than what we have today.

I agree with you Golden. At that age he/she is still attracted to older kids because they are older kids themselves.

Not surprised by this. A 23 year old man-child shouldn't be put in that position in the 1st place. 23 is WAY too young to be put in an authoritative postion above a bunch of 17 and 18 year old kids.
