MEMPHIS, TN - A family is mourning the death of Karen Thomas and authorities are still investigating her murder.

Shelby County Sheriff Deputies found her body in a river yesterday. She'd been missing for a week.

Today deputies were seen searching the wooded area south of I-40 between Warford and Jackson.
The victim’s husband, Terrence Thomas is charged with her murder.

Terrence Thomas is facing a first degree murder charge and filing a false report.

Last week he told police his wife went missing, but yesterday according to an affidavit, he told investigators he strangled her in their bedroom and dumped her body in the Loosahatchie River.

Her family was there yesterday as deputies retrieved the body. At that time they did not know it was her, but their fears were confirmed later that day.

The couple filed for divorce in 2004 but stayed together despite the fact that Karen was often the victim of abuse. The couple's two children are staying with the suspect's sister for now.

Thomas is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail and is scheduled to be in court Monday.
