HORN LAKE, MS (abc24.com) - It started with several car break-ins. Now thousands of dollars and at least two identities have been stolen. Horn Lake police have photos of the suspects, but need help tracking the criminals down.

They put the pictures out at the end of last week and haven't gotten any tips. "We were able to get some good video surveillance of them," says Lt. Scott Evans. But so far, these pictures haven't produced people.

"Usually if we put their pictures out and we don't get a lot of tips, that lets us know they're not from the area," Evans says. He believes the two could be traveling criminals.

The man and woman are wanted for stealing about $12,000.

Horn Lake police say the two cashed checks from women who had their purses stolen in Latimer Lakes Park at the end of June.

"We had four car burglaries all the windows were busted out. They contained checkbooks, IDs, credit cards, debit cards, things like that."

A few weeks later a man and woman were captured on camera using the stolen checkbooks at Regions banks.

"They used a checkbook out of one burglarized vehicle to write checks to an identity of one other vehicle," Evans explains.

The duo made several trips cashing multiple checks for $2,000, each at different branches in Memphis, Southaven and Horn Lake.

"It was written to a girl's ID. There was a female in the car. They were way out in the drive-thru," Evans says, escaping scrutiny, but he hopes not escaping justice.

He's still asking for tips, but says if the suspects are from out town, it makes catching them much harder.

"Then you have to get agencies from all over the country to help look into it. Things get more difficult."

The two are facing many charges including forgery, identity theft and conspiracy. They could also be prosecuted for burglary and motor vehicle theft.
