JACKSON, TN (abc24.com) - A Jackson, Tennessee teen will be tried as an adult for a robbery and assault on Thanksgiving weekend.
17-year old Cornelius Moffitt is charged with especially aggravated burglary, especially aggravated kidnapping and especially aggravated robbery for attacking a woman inside her residence at Park Trace Apartments.
Jackson police responded to a burglary in progress at Park Trace Apartments on Nov. 26 around 2:00pm. The victim walked inside her apartment to find Moffitt hiding in the closet behind her front door. He grabbed her around the neck in a choke-hold, demanded money, and led her into different rooms in the apartment looking for money. He eventually took money from her purse.
At one point during the burglary, the victim was unable to breathe. She was able to pull a knife from her pocket and stabbed Moffitt in the forearm that he had around her neck. She suffered an accidental, self-inflicted cut to her neck when he moved his arm. Both were transported to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment. Upon release, Moffitt was arrested.
Moffitt was transferred from the juvenile detention center and booked at the Madison County Jail on $20,000 bond on Dec. 21. The case is scheduled to go before a grand jury in March.
