LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Jonesboro police have released documents and recordings that they used in their investigation of the death of a 21-year-old man who died from a gunshot wound while handcuffed in the back of a patrol car.

Investigators have ruled Chavis Carter's July 28 death a suicide. The documents released Thursday don't shed much new light on how Carter wound up in the back of a patrol car while armed with a pistol.

Among the recordings released was audio of Carter's girlfriend talking to a detective. She said Carter called her after police stopped a car he was in and told her he had a gun.

Jonesboro Police Chief Michael Yates has said his officers should have found the weapon.

Carter was frisked twice before being handcuffed for a ride to jail.
