MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - He's now 0-2. Memphis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash did not get the job of Duval County, Florida school superintendent.
This won't be the last time you hear about Kriner Cash up for a job. He's made it clear that he wants to continue working as a superintendent of schools.
So the bottom line is one way or another, Cash is leaving this city. The question is whether he'll be leaving with another job or just a nice fat retirement check.
Give it up to the state of Florida. When school boards or state agencies hire somebody it's all done in the open. It's the law: no secret meetings.
Those in Jacksonville got a chance to see Dr. Cash up close and personal. The Duval school board let people watch his third and final interview online from start to finish.
Cash started by thanking board members for their work.
"You've really, really done all of your homework," he said. "You've come to the city with a reporter, spent three days there asking and scouring the county and the city, every stake holder, asking lots and lots of questions."
Cash has been in this seat before. He was one of five finalists for superintendent of schools in Charlotte, North Carolina.
There is speculation that cash didn't get that job because of a poll done by city school teachers that was critical of Cash and his leadership. It's information they had in Jacksonville as well.
Cash stated in his interview, "You have all the information you could possibly have and much more about the decision that is before you. It's up to you. It's up to you."
The board got a good taste of the famed Kriner Cash modesty.
"I am a proven leader. I'm a successful leader for over 30 years in public education at all levels."
Dr. Cash's days in Memphis have been numbered since the Unified School Board refused to extend his contract. It ends in August of next year, right at the same time the city and county school systems merge.
Dr. Nickolai Vitti, formerly with the Miami-Dade County school system, was chosen as the new superintendent of Duval County Public Schools.
