It is true we cannot erase history, nor do we ever wish to becasue we can learn from it if we allow ourselves to do so. The reason some people are in favor of changing the parks' names is becasue many think naming a park after someone is honoring them. If you had a park named after you, you might find it an honor. It is reasonable for a society to stop and ask who we would want to pay homage to and in what manner. For the most part, we in the city of Memphis have an embarassing city council. Some may very well be racist. But removing these names from the parks is not in itself racist. The charge is that those removed were the racist and divisive ones. Had serious suggestions been made to change the names to other individual names, one could argue. But the newly accepted names are neutral. The history of the parks should not be erased, but we do not necessarily have to honor divisive individuals by their namesake. The KKK is not going to be helpful to this issue. If that uneducated mask adorning cowardly individual is their spokesperson, they should be further encouraged not to waste their time attempting to protest this matter. I cannot imagine the riot that this could potentially begin as we have two extremely uneducated, igorant, and strong willed people groups collide. Ultimately, if the majority rules and democracy is the rule in this country and a value we wish to continue to possess, we need to accept that the majority of the city of Memphis would agree to changing the names of these parks in question or simply do not care enough to oppose it.

I have black friends and we respect each other because they were raised like I was. To work and not stand in line with my hand out. Changing the Parks Names will not change history. The KKK being here is no more hateful than Janis Full-o-Drugs saying that she wanted to rename the park "Nat turner Park" "because he hated white people".

I am upset that the city council voted to rename a park that I grew up playing in and relaxing on Sunday afternoons, I am a Southerner and very proud of that fact, but I sure do not want any KKKs coming into Memphis for any reason. They scare me and its white people like the kkks and some of the racist black people that keep these bad feelings going among our citizens of Memphis. The City Council should be ashamed of themselves for starting all this mess!

What will renaming the park do or change anyway? Its still going to be NBF park isnt he buried there? Are they gonna dig him up? Are we going to pretend he never existed? Lets just do away with every thing we dont like. Wait,,, that would mean we would all be done away with.
