First off the area is not full of crime and was never full of crime malls are just dying i mean rivergate and hickory hollow are 2 malls in nashville that are about to close and they are in similar areas. The business around the mall are doing quite well actually i work in the area. Also if you tear it down something stupid like a factory might get built which would competely destroy the commercial area. Ideas for what could go there well the north half of the city lacks a bowling alley, a movie theater, any sort of entertainment. There a few restaurants. I see a nice well landscaped park, move the community center from hidden in the neighborhood and place it next to the park. Add some food and even apartment coummunities like downtown on the site it can really be nice if people were serious about investing in the city and making it nice. The area still has a good mix of race and income. It could easily support quality development they problem is convincing people of the city that never visit the area or negihborhoods to invest in it.

It was a nice mall. But memphis let the thugs move in and take over. Anyone remember the mall of memphis? Wolfchase is in a better business location, but it will fall to if the city turns a blind eye on the fact that shoppers don't go places where drug dealers and gangbangers hang out.

Put in some nail shops, a check cashing place, a braiding salon, a dashiki store. Then add a DMV branch and perhaps a rent to own store. And VOILA! Good as new!

Give the owner six months to make improvements, failure to do results in the city recending their business license, and begin the process to condemn the property as a nuisance.

That would be the perfect symbolism representing where our nation is.

Why not turn it into low-income housing, or another prison?!
