Start with all of the government bureaucrats that siphon every dime they can out of the economy, and do it for 'the children' or 'public safety'. With salaries and pensions, expense accounts, etc, they suck more money out of the productive sector than all of the welfare recipients, and they do it at the point of a gun. Drug test THEM FIRST. Of course if the silly, costly, evil, racist, fiscally destructive war on drugs were just to go away, this wouldn't be an issue at all....

This is an incredible idea. would thin out about 70% of the leeches on this social program.

Maybe if they would stop spending their money on drugs, they wouldn't need to be on welfare, if you have enough money to pay for drugs you have enough money to feed you and your kids

Say what you will, but these people need to be "Randomly" tested, no question about that. I don't believe they want to do testing to take away from the people who really need assistance, but I would be willing to bet that there are at least 35% of the people receiving assistance either on drugs or have other income that would disqualify them from this program. Give it to those who need it; then take it from those just milking the system.

This is a no-brainer. Sitting at home and watching Judge Judy all day isn't nearly as satisfying without drugs. If people stop getting paid to sit on their ass and get stoned then they will find work simply out of boredom. I don't care what people do with their free-time unless it's on my dime. I honestly believe that having to work for a living in order to earn the right abuse illegal drugs will be a very strong motivator for the majority of people currently abusing the system. Now we just need to test for malt liquor and everything will be perfect.

i totally agree with this program as someone who has had to use goverment programs before it makes me mad to see people take advantage and use the money they are getting for drugs this would actually pay for itself with lower crime and more money for the people who really need it

Critics say that it would be tough on a already struggling population. If they have money for drugs then that means they don't need food stamps for groceries. Some states have a program where foodstamp recipients have to list their assests. I agree, if you can buy a escalade then you should not be on a tax funded program. Lets put a stop to the handouts and put people back on the payroll. Laziness is not an excuse not to work.
