MEMPHIS, TN - Collierville police are working hard to find missing basketball star Lorenzen Wright-- last seen a week ago. The police told Eyewitness News that they have doubled the number of detectives working on Wright's case from two to four-- but still no trace.
Former Memphis Grizzlies teammate, Antonio Burks, is as mystified by Lorenzen's disappearance as everybody else. "I'm hoping all is well for his family's sake and his kids. I would assume nothing at this time. He probably just wanted to take a vacation.. get away and clear his mind."
For Burks, this hits very close to home. Not only was Wright a teammate-- he was Burks' hero. "He was my idol growing up. In middle school I used to go to all the Booker T. Washington games to watch him play. I looked up to him. I ended up having a chance to play with him; with the Grizzlies-- so he knows I look up to him. That's why he checks up on me." Until lately.
Some stories are circulating that Lorenzen just disappears occassionaly, but Burks disagrees. "Not the Lorenzen I know. He's mainly a family guy. He's around his kids a lot. His boys are getting older and they love basketball, so he's a family guy and he stays away from trouble."
Right now, family, friends and former teammates are all hoping trouble stays away from him.
