She also is representing Desoto County on the Superintendents Youth Leadership Council and just recently traveled to New York City with this group. This year she funded her way to London and Paris with her Explorers club. In addition to all of this, she played recreational, competitive and varsity soccer, she has played in the school band and also competed in various pageants. Now she is an assistant coach / program assistant for a competitivegirl’s soccer team. She is also an awesome big sister. While Emily does enjoy the profits of her business (Flagpole Express), she also understands the importance of giving back to her community. She has donated her products to numerous schools, nonprofit organizations and civic projects. She has given her time to brighten up the day with our seniors in nursing homes, she has served the homeless and she has volunteered to work in local food banks. Emily has also volunteered as keynote speaker for both the Hernando Optimist Club and the Southaven Rotary club to discuss how she launched her own business along with straight talk to these groups about the challenges that face today’s youth (some of the topics she tackled were difficult). She has provided 3 of her flagpoles to be used at the Traveling Vietnam Wall which memorializes the service of our fallen soldiers. She has a strong passion for our country and the young men and women that have afforded us to have the freedoms that we have. Emily is so proud to be part of it and sees this as an opportunity to give back to these soldiers. Emily is currently a straight A student and in the top 5% in her class. She has a 31 score on her ACT and is not satisfied with that and has already signed up for the next test. As a High School Junior she was awarded a summer scholarship to attend Ole Miss and she is looking forward to this opportunity. I am very proud of my daughter inspirational story and I hope that it can help other to have a stronger since of “I Can” and a belief in “The A

“The American Dream and a Little Girl with an I Can Attitude” Emily Waldon Let me give you an overview of this incredible girl’s “I Can” attitude and her belief in the American Dream. Emily Waldon is the Founder and President of Flagpole Express. Emily goes through life with an “I Can” attitude and is not afraid to take on challenges that some of her peers may think are out of reach. As a result of this, Emily has been able to accomplish many things at a very young age. At age 6, Emily was an average elementary student at SBEC and on 9/11/01 a great tragedy occurred that moved this young lady to express her patriotism for our nation and it also afforded me the opportunity to explain to Emily that there are people in this world that hate the freedoms that we treasure. From this point forward, Emily evolved from being an average kid to being an extraordinary kid. She started to live life to its fullest and see every day as an opportunity for a new adventure. At age 6, she founded her own business- Flagpole Express. At age 7, she competed in bull riding and placed 2nd. At age 8, she was competing to win high points at a local saddle club and she did. At age 9, she was the saddle club princess and competing to be regional SASCA club princess (by the way in her efforts to do this she bought a horse trailer and had her parents to drive her to Texas so she could buy the horse that she wanted with her own money). This soon got a bit out of hand and over the next 3 years she owned 5 horses and was on her 3rd horse trailer. At age 12, she took her family to Disney world with her business profits. At 14 she funded her own way to Italy and Greece. Most importantly, at age 15 she committed her life to Christ. At age 16, she took on leadership roles at Lewisburg high school as Sophomore class representative. She continued in this role in her Junior year. In addition to this role she is representing her school as the Mu Alpha Theta Delegate and Historian. She also is repres
