MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The American Queen is back in Memphis, but the world's largest riverboat can't dock in its usual spot.
The Mississippi River is too low for the ship to dock at Beale Street Landing. More work has to be done on the landing before the American Queen can pull up when the river level is down.
So for now, the American Queen is docked at Greenbelt Park at the north end of Harbortown. Both spots are managed by the Riverfront Development Corporation.
"It's a great plan B, knowing where the hydrants are. We have the big 100 by 500 foot parking lot here. We've been here before. In fact this is the last dock the Queen ever docked out of 3 years ago. The last cruise ever came out of here. So it's a good historical location to do this," said Jimmy Ogle with the Riverfront Development Corporation.
Island Drive is blocked on Mud Island while the American Queen is using Greenbelt Park. Mud Island residents are asked to use the bridge on the south end of the island.
