MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The superintendent of Memphis City Schools is speaking out about one of his teachers accused of having sex with a student.
April Wade is out on bond and one thing’s for sure, her 17-year-old boy toy isn't getting any homework help from her any more.
The 34-year-old likes her men a bit tender in age, so says her 17-year-old bed mate. Wade was in court for the first time Tuesday, October 25, 2011, charged with statutory rape. Not only is her forbidden love life in limbo, but now her future too.
“It’s definitely not pleasant, we don't like to see any cases like this,” said Memphis Police Department spokesperson, Karen Rudolph.
For the past year, the teen had been living with Wade. His parents thought he was living with a buddy. Wade claimed they simply slept in the same bed, the kid says there was definitely sex involved.
On abc24's Mid-Day show, MCS superintendent, Dr. Kriner Cash said don't blame the district for one rotten apple.
“We're like a large city; you have 100,000 students. 16,000 employees, people are going to do wrong things from time to time and we have to take swift action when we get the facts,” said Cash.
Wade is currently off the job without pay. She is set to be back in court November 6, 2011.
