MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Light, Gas and Water employees are headed to the northeast to assist in power restoration efforts in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

33 MLGW employees will be in Long Island to help restore service to more than 650,000 customers. The utility company is also sending specialists to assist with Long Island's underground electric network.

“The Northeast faces a tremendous restoration effort,” said MLGW President and CEO Jerry
Collins Jr. “Just as other utilities have assisted us in the past, MLGW is committed to helping
restore power to the residents of Long Island.”

You can follow MLGW's journey on the company's blog, Bird on a Wire, at www.mlgw.blogspot.com.
