NASHVILLE, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis Police officer is off the job after he was caught with marijuana in a smoky van on the Tennessee State University campus on November 19, 2011.
26-year-old Tramaine Johnson and several others in a 1998 Ford van were pulled over for a traffic stop by campus police just after 4:00pm. The officer reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from the van, and after additional officers arrived on the scene 9.2 grams of pot was recovered. Johnson, who was still in possession of his MPD issued weapon, was arrested along with all of the occupants in the vehicle.
Tramaine Johnson was charged by Nashville Police with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia. He has since been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Johnson has been employed with the Memphis Police Department at Union Station since January 2009.
