MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Local talk show host Thaddeus Matthews is being questioned by Memphis police detectives after he posted a picture on his Facebook page that showed a small girl being forced to perform oral sex on a man. He said he was just trying to help.
Matthews says not only did he get sick after seeing the picture, he got angry.
"To think that a man would do this to a child, force a child to do something like this was totally sickening… who is depraved enough to do this to a child?" he asks. "Whatever it takes to save a child is what I'm willing to do."
What Matthews did was post the picture on his Facebook page for close to an hour, "so we can find this depraved individual that was forcing this child to do this despicable act."
"Somebody must do something to protect this child," he says, but admits, "against better judgment I posted that pic."
Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich says to anybody who's thinking about posting or sending pornographic images of children in hopes of helping that child, don't.
"You may think you're trying to help but you're committing a felony, a very serious felony," she says. "Anybody that thinks by posting pornographic images of children they're helping children, I'm very confused by that."
Matthews says he didn't intend to commit a crime. He says while all the attention is focused on him, it should be focused on someone else.
"The initial person that sent this on Instagram is a guy named Rollie Craig. Why aren't we searching for Rollie Craig?"
He says, "There was no criminal of malicious intent it was only about saving a child."
Memphis police are still investigating.
