MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The Memphis Police Department has released the identity of an officer who accidentally shot a fellow officer during a drug raid.

Officer Byron Willis and Officer Willie Bryant were with members of the Organized Crime Unite executing a search warrant on drug charges at a home on the 500-block of Arrington on Thursday, November 8. When they forced entry to the home, a Cane Corso charged the officers. Willis shot once at the dog but missed, hitting Bryant by mistake.

Officer Bryant, 32, was transported to The MED where he remains in critical condition. He has served as an MPD office since November 2003.

Officer Willis, 43, has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. He has served the Memphis Police Department since July 2007.
