MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police say the Budget Inn and the Crown Inn were shut down after more than a year-long investigation into prostitution and drugs, leading to more than 400 arrests.

In a 14 month span from May of 2011 to August of 2012, police were called out to the Budget Inn a total of 97 times. The Crown Inn, 84 times.

A Budget Inn employee said his boss told him about the closing of the hotel but didn't tell him why. He said the allegations of prostitution were a surprise.

"I mean they walk up and down the street but I have never seen anyone stop at this hotel here but you see them everyday just walking up and down the street," said Budget Inn employee Antonio Taylor.

Each hotel has been slapped with a temporary restraining order. Police have now labeled them public nuisances.

"I don't believe they gonna be able to stop that, they're just gonna move somewhere else," said Carolyn Young.

Not only the world's oldest profession but a victimless crime. Prostitute busts make great front page news, meanwhile gang violence is on the rise. Where are the stories about that?

It's a tough economy, those hotels couldn't keep up with their bribe money to the Memphis cops ; plain and simple.

Amen ReligionStinks. Legalize it, regulate it, and tax it. It can't be stopped but it can be made safer.

This is a waste of tax money. Prostitution should be legalized.
