MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A man was arrested Wednesday after a security guard caught him trying to pry open an ATM machine with a screwdriver at a Whitehaven area bank.
Memphis police were called to Regions Bank at 1190 E Shelby Drive after the security guard saw a suspect trying to break in to the drive up ATM. When officers arrived the suspect fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
The suspect, 30-year-old Jermaine Cox, admitted to police he had tried to break in to the ATM machine using a flat head screwdriver. Cox later admitted to attempting to break in to another ATM machine in the area.
Jermaine Cox is charged with two counts of Attempted Theft of Property over $60,000, two counts of Vandalism and Evading Arrest. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail on $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 18.
