Man Caught Trying to Scrap Stolen Advocacy Center Statue

MARION, AR (abc24.com) - Crittenden County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man trying to scrap a bronze statue stolen from the Child Advocacy Center in Memphis over the Christmas holiday.

58-year-old Freddie Davis was arrested just after 4 p.m. on Monday, January 28 at Crittenden Recycling outside Marion, Arkansas after he was caught trying to the statue of for scrap. The business owner recognized the statue from the news and contacted the authorities.

Davis is currently charged with Theft of Scrap Metal, but additional charges could be pending as they investigate the original theft of the statue.

The life-sized bronze statue of the little girl is part of a larger sculpture that includes a boy sitting atop an oversized turtle, and was in front of the main entrance to the center, located at 1085 Poplar Avenue.

The Child Advocacy Center received the Bill Bond sculpture, named 'Happy Travelers', as a gift for the center's 10-year anniversary in 2002. The center offers therapy for traumatized children and families, and serves as headquarters for the Child Protection Investigation Team.
