Man Found Dead in University-Area Apartment Fire

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis firefighters recovered a man's body while battling a fire at an apartment complex near the University of Memphis early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the Carnes Manor Apartments on Carnes Avenue near Highland Street around 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19. The fire was brought under control shortly after 3 a.m.

As firefighters were searching the interior of an apartment, a young man was found dead in a rear bedroom. The victim's identity has not been released, but neighbors said he was a student at the University of Memphis.

Four units of the apartment building were damaged by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
