Memphis, TN - Memphis fire investigators say a shortage in a power strip is to blame for a deadly Orange Mound house fire Wednesday morning.

Memphis firefighters responded to a report of a house fire at 1497 Hugenot St. around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. When they arrived on the scene, they could see fire coming from the home. Crews were able to bring the fire under control within about ten minutes.

When firefighters searched inside the home, they found an adult male in a back bedroom. The victim was taken critical to The MED for second and third degree burns and smoke inhalation. He died a short time later at the hospital.

Investigators say the home did not have a working smoke detector. They say the fire was the result of a shortage in a power strip which was connected to a heating unit in the living room.
