MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a man who killed a Henderson police captain during an attempted robbery has been sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years without parole.

The U.S. attorney's office for West Tennessee said Thursday that 51-year-old Ricky Lee Stewart, who also goes by Steward, has been sentenced in the December 2009 death of Capt. Dennis Cagle.

Stewart, of Smyrna, pleaded guilty in October 2011 to four charges, including committing first-degree murder in the perpetration of an attempted robbery while using a firearm.

Cagle responded to the report of a robbery at a Save-A-Lot and was shot. Cagle died days later from his injuries.

Stewart's wife, 52-year-old Cheryl Freeman Steward, has pleaded guilty to charges arising from the same incident. She is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 30.
