MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The murder count continues to rise in Memphis after a man was shot in his home on December 29, 2011. 38-year-old Thomas Moore was pronounced dead at the scene and now police are searching for his killer. The murder marks the 147th homicide of the year.

The murder happened just before midnight on the 6400-block of Summer Creek near Kirby Pkwy and E Shelby Dr. Shattered glass at the front door marks where, according to the victim's wife, Thomas Moore was shot dead.

Speaking with abc24.com over the phone, she said she was not home when it happened, but she might as well have been. She was on the phone with her husband when she heard the doorbell ring. He answered it and moments later she heard a gunshot.

Neighbor Earl King, who saw the aftermath of police cars and crime scene tape, later found out his friend had been killed.

"He never did nothing to nobody, a good working guy," King said of Thomas Moore. He said his friend had "two jobs, go to work everyday; a good guy, a real good guy. I hated to hear that, man."

What makes this story even sadder is that Thomas Moore became a grandfather just a couple of weeks ago.

Police are still looking for the person responsible. If you have any information, call CrimeStoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274).

People are not safe in their own home ! Crime is rampant in Memphis so what does the city do. reduce the police pay...that is a real morale booster.. while they give raises to city and county employees. Let's see how they come to your aid when you have trouble. This city county need to get their priorities in order and use some common sense. They squander your money and & wonder why people get upset. What a joke they are ! Fire all of them. Get people who know how to take care of this community !

And people still get up set when other people talk about the crime situation in that area. Rather than really doing something about the situation, they just complain, and are quick to try and justify what happens in the area. There is only one way to deal with this situation, but that calls for community involvement, and that's not going to happen, is it?
