MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Actress Marlo Thomas is one of six people receiving a Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum.

Thomas is being honored Tuesday for her work as national outreach director for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which her father, actor Danny Thomas, founded.

The museum gives out the awards every year to honor people who champion humanitarian and civil rights causes.

Other recipients include Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank. He and the bank were awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for making collateral-free loans to poor people in Bangladesh.

Bernard Lafayette, a former aide of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., also received a Freedom Award for his work during the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
