Marshall County Sheriff's Department Mourns the Loss of a Deputy

According to a spokesperson for the Marshal County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Patrol Officer Scott Johnson died shortly after helping to break up a fight while off-duty in Southeast Memphis on Friday evening.

Officer Johnson stopped to assist a security guard in a scuffle at the Walmart at 7525 Winchester in Southeast Memphis. He was able to help the security guard get the aggressor under control.

On his was back home, Johnson started to experience breathing problems and was taken to Alliance Health Care in Holly Springs, MS by his 22 year-old stepson who had been traveling with him.

Shortly after their arrival at the hospital, Officer Scott Johnson collapsed. He was unable to be resuscitated.

Officer Johnson's body was sent to Jackson, MS for an autopsy, but those results are unknown at this time.
