MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Shelby County is facing several financial challenges in the coming months, according to Mayor Mark Luttrell.
The mayor spoke Tuesday at the Financial Executives International Conference.
He says the county's budget is $1.2 billion. About $60 million of that goes to Memphis for public schools and school safety officers.
The mayor also expects property values to go down in the county next year after reappraisals, which means less money coming in from property taxes.
Luttrell says the county will have to be innovative and creative to ensure there's enough money for needed services without putting too many of those costs on the taxpayers.
