MEMPHIS, TN – Investigators still haven’t released what led up to Lorenzen Wright’s murder, leaving family, close friends and former classmates like Rosalyn Dean at a loss for words. “This cuts like a knife.”

Wright’s body was found July 28, 2010 in a field near Hacks Cross and Winchester nine days after he was last seen alive. His ex wife Sherra has been brought in for questioning, but close friend and Atlanta roommate Michael Gipson doesn’t think she’s responsible. “I can’t see her wanting to see Lorenzen harmed in any kind of way.”

Gipson tells myEyewitnessNews.com he is disappointed Sherra Wright waited to tell police about three armed men coming to her Collierville home looking for Lorenzen. As investigators look for his killer, former high school classmates are looking to each other for comfort. They’re organizing one of several memorials for the Booker T. Washington standout. “To get together and to express how we felt for him,” Dean tells myEyewitnessNews.com. “To hold one another up, and keep his family in prayers. He touched a lot of us who went to school with him, who went to college with him.”

Tonight close friends are eagerly awaiting answers into who killed the 13 year NBA veteran and why. “But that’s not going to bring him back,” Gipson tells myEyewitnessNews.com. “Whatever happened or whatever is not going to bring him back. To me I still lost a part of me.” Dean is also having a tough time coping with the loss. “It was a senseless killing, the unanswered questions, the things that his parents are facing. It’s just tragic that this came to a tragic halt.”

Several memorials have been planned in memory of Lorenzen Wright including one set for August 2, 2010 at Booker T Washington high School. It starts at 4:30p.m. and will be for Booker T. Washington Alumni only.

The Memphis Grizzlies will also have a memorial for Wright. That will be August 4, 2010 at 1:00p.m. at the FedEx Forum. Doors open at noon.

Lorenzen Wright leaves behind six children. His fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi has established a memorial fund through Regions Bank. You can stop by any branch and make a donation.
