It may be just the Memphis Zoo to you but it is one of the top zoos in the nation. I went to St. Louis' zoo a couple of years ago and it was terrible. Penguins were losing their feathers, the orangutans were losing the hair in patches, and others were just did not have a very healthy look to them. For what you get, the price is fine. They do have the free Tuesday deal...partake in that when possible.

it is priced way for a reason - several of these post have hit nail on the head, the more memphis "locals" that show up - safety becomes an issue and that is a fact.. examples - liberty land , hickory ridge mall and the mall of memphis are all shining examples of how nice places have failed due to the local population. when people (black, white, green or red) fear going somewhere because the risk is to great - it does not take a genius to figure out the outcome

Leave the zoo alone. Just like everything else, you get what you pay for. We have a world class zoo and the admissions are in line with those of other cities that have a quality zoo. If you lower admissions then you either loose quality or the taxpayers wind up subsidizing another program.

Atlanta Zoo: Adults $20.99 Children 3-11 $15.99 Seniors, College Students and Military $16.99 To the person who said "It's the Memphis Zoo, not Chattanooga or San Diego", have you visited all 3 zoos? While the San Diego Zoo is a superior experience and the pricing reflects that, currently the Chattanooga Zoo is much smaller and has fewer exhibits. It will be intersting to see if they increase their pricing after they complete their 12.5 million dollar renovation. The Memphis Zoo is not overpriced for the experience it provides. There is a "Free Admission" time on Tuesdays. In our city which can't even support multiple shopping malls, multiple concert venues, the historical value of the River walk on Mud Island, lets please not screw up anything else.

The people that are whining about are most likely living for free anyway . Are my tax dollars going to have to fund their entertainment also. A family membership cost .27 cents a day. If they can not afford that them they need to cut back on two packs of cigarettes a month or a soda per week. As I remember there is or was a free day for Tennessee residents, but when the trash invaded it was not safe to go. I as a member for the past two decades have always avoided that day for safety reasons. I don't go to the zoo when the animals are on the wrong side of the bars. The zoo rendezvous was just last week and I cannot afford to go but do you here me whining about it? know your budget and stay in it . The government was not created to support you . Deal with it.
