Last year the gentleman in Cordova took his own dog to his own back yard and put it down after it attacked the neighbor and her child. He was immediately arrested and took to jail. He wasn't a Memphis firefighter though.

This is what a relatively small steel trap looks like. It is beyond me why a civilized human being would need to use these in this day and age. http://www.ehow.com/how_6709550_trap-steel-traps.html As noted above, what if this had been a child or person. They would have certainly lost a limb. From the looks of this guy's house and the use of such a barbaric trap, something doesn't seem quite right. It will be interesting to follow the Shelby County Sheriff's Department's investigation of this guy. Glad that animal rights advocates are involved as animals are often perceived by law enforcement as very low priority. abc24, please don't drop this - keep us informed on the investigation.

This was cruel and senseless! This man did this on purpose, who would have steel traps set up? He did this intentionally, cold blooded piece of crap! Get him for this, you can see how he values life. And, he supposed to save lives? He would probably leave you in the fire to burn, mind you along with any pets you may have!

Thank you, Joy Lambert, for covering this story. Steel traps around here, in 2013? That's crazy, regardless of the reason. This person sounds dangerous.

I would like to know MORE. Why was the dog being allowed to run loose? Had the dog been crapping in the neighbor's yard while the owner refused to do anything about it? I do not condone the murder of a dog in any way. But I would like to know more about the background of this case.

he should be relieved of duty pending the outcome of a 3 year investigation.

This "firefighter" is no better than the lowest street thug. He has brought just as much misery into people's lives with his idiotic, redneck contempt for his neighbor's dog. I'm sure this creep is no joy to live around in any measure.

Whoa!! Steel traps in his yard?? I shudder to think if a child wandered into his yard with those steel traps there. I see the fire department lowered their hiring standards just like MPD did. NUT CASE!!!

"He was worth thousands of dollars"; Was he not in a fenced yard? Or did he just get out? Was the dog damaging his property? Sounds like a coward if he is afraid of labs. He intentionally set traps; He SHOULD face cruelty charges. I think I'd be waiting for him to "trespass" on MY property.
