MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis man who strangled his girlfriend to death in 2009 was found guilty on a lesser charge.

Instead of First Degree Murder, a jury convicted 33-year-old Leo Johnson on Voluntary Manslaughter.

Police say Ivory Calhoun's roommate found her body in the front yard of their home in the 3300-block of Flower Valley in the Raleigh area. The medical examiner ruled her cause of death as strangulation.

Johnson faces up to 15 years in prison and is expected to be sentenced in October.
