MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Shelby County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Memphis Police officer after a reported fight with her boyfriend.

The sheriff's office notified an MPD supervisor just before 4:00am on February 4, 2012 that they had a Memphis officer in custody. Investigators stated that 40-year-old Amanda Wakham was arrested on the 12000-block of Macon in Fisherville after a physical altercation with her boyfriend.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Wakham's boyfriend stated they had gotten into an argument because she was kissing another woman in front of him. He said as the argument escalated, Wakham hit him in the head with a kettle ball weight and a large decorative candle, according to the police affidavit. Wakham fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, but was apprehended a short distance away after she fired two shots from a handgun. While being placed under arrest, Wakham also damaged the squad car's radar housing and antenna.

She was charged with Aggravated Assault and Vandalism under $500.

Amanda Wakham has been with the Memphis Police Department since February 2001. She was already relieved of duty for an unrelated incident in April 2011; Wakham remains on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the investigations.

Wow, do you all really have nothing else to do with your time than bash other people? I'm pretty sure not every single one of you all are completely innocent in your lives. Everyone makes mistakes, and the supposed "boyfriend" really is not her boyfriend at all, but just some loser that is doing nothing but hurting her. I mean, really? There's so many more horrible things that are going on with our police force right this moment that are being allowed to happen with no punishment. Her family and friends already have enough to deal with without all of you adding to the pain and the stress. Just think, how would you feel if you were in my shoes? I write this with pain and sorrow in my heart just wishing that people still knew how to show a bit of sympathy. Sincerely... someone very dear to her

Frayserrboi- Being a woman I will agree some jobs are just not meant for us. But what does this story have ANYTHING to do with her being capable of doing her job or not? And if its because she`s in the news, how about you go back & read the past MPD officer`s stories which happen to be all males. I know you read them considering you comment on every news story. Excop- Im taking it that your an ex police officer in which you of all people should know that being an officer of the law, a fireman, or Paramedic etc anything you do that many people do EVERYDAY is always going to make the news and the story will be bigger than it actually was just because of the job you do. The news is a place to broad cast the bad in people not the good, you dont ever hear this officer arrested this criminal or this paramedic saved this child`s life. I am not disagreeing that MPD doesnt have its problems but its just not in MEMPHIS people!!!

Fourth Memphis cop arrested in the last three weeks. No wonder ole' AC announced a recruiting drive for new cops. Seems though he could save time if he just put a stack applications down at 201 Poplar intake counter.
