MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Another Memphis police officer is in trouble with the law, this time for prescription fraud.
An arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday, October 9 for 39-year-old Paula Jamerson on four counts of Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud/Deceit/Forgery of a Prescription. She surrendered to authorities shortly after the warrant was issued.
The charges stem from four fraudulent prescriptions for the diet drug Phentermine between December 2011 and August 2012. According to police reports, a nurse practitioner at Mediplan Diet Services in Hickory Hill called police last month.
"The prescriptions had been filled previously by the physician in the office and the four prescriptions that were passed were taken out of the patient's file by Paula Jamerson and subsequently refilled," a detective wrote in Jamerson's affidavit.
Jamerson has been with the Memphis Police Department for nearly 13 years. She has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
This case makes the 21st MPD officer to be arrested this year.
