MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after he was shot twice in the leg.

The incident happened on the 4000-block of Berkshire Ave around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. The officer, identified as Calvin Taylor, was transported to The MED in non-critical condition.

Investigators say Officer Taylor and other OCU officers were serving a warrant at a suspected drug house when the shooting occurred. Taylor was securing the perimeter of the property as other officers entered the home; once inside the officers opened fire as they were charged by three pit bulls, and two shots went through the house and hit Officer Taylor in the leg.

Two dogs were killed in the shooting. Several suspects were detained at the scene, but charges are still pending.

Officer Taylor has been with the Memphis Police Department since August 1998.
