MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police shot and killed a man who refused to stop firing his shotgun early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to Mississippi Blvd and S Danny Thomas Blvd around 3 a.m. on Sunday, March 10 on reports of an armed man in the street. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man armed with a shotgun a short distance away on the 400-block of Georgia Ave.

Investigators say officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, but the man refused and opened fire. Police fired back and hit the suspect, killing him. The suspect was later identified as 61-year-old Horace Whiting.

The officers involved, whose names have not been released by MPD, have been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

You are right hornytoad. Maybe the man was mental which puts everyone around him in danger. You simply cannot brandish and fire a weapon when and wherever you want to and expect the police to just let you chill!
