MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police called in their Bomb Unit to the High Point Terrace neighborhood in East Memphis after they found a pipe bomb while serving an arrest warrant.
Officers went to serve an arrest warrant on drug charges to 29-year-old Jacob Rhodes at house on the 300-block of North Highland Street around 6:30pm on January 25, 2012. Rhodes fled on foot, but was apprehended after a short chase. The suspect consented to a search of his home, and officers saw what appeared to be a pipe bomb inside.
When the MPD Bomb Unit and ATF agents arrived on the scene, they assisted police in recovering a pipe bomb, a shotgun, marijuana and meth.
Jacob Rhodes is charged with Evading Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver/Sell, Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Possession of Marijuana. He is currently being held without bond at the Shelby County Jail, and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27th.
