MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong held a meeting with Memphis City Schools to address teen violence, such as the incident that resulted in 17-year old Terrence Wilkins being shot and killed after a basketball game at Central High School Friday night.

Armstrong says after the meeting, he left convinced "MCS went through extraordinary steps to make sure students were safe."

He says the seven officers MCS had at the game were more than enough. "Sometimes you have to tell yourselves the truth. Regardless of how many officers were at this game would this event have happened? There's no way to know that.''

While Armstrong said there was a breakdown in communication, that's something they will repair in the future.

And yet everyone dances around the fact that the parents of these teens need to step up and get into thier kids everyday lives and activities. Quit expecting the police and government to help you out with your parenting. Step up and report the folks you know who are creating the problems in the neighborhoods, if its your kids, family, relatives, friends all acting as thugs, turn them in. Don't sit thier and keep quite when the police ask you if you know or saw anything. You whine about the police being in your business and neighorhoods, and when something happens, you want more police on the street. Choose one or the other. This rant is not black or white, it is for everyone. Step Up/Man Up.

Typical reaction/response from those "in charge"...call a meeting after the fact! These things happen as a matter of routine now in this city; whenever or where ever a group/crowd of people gather there will invariably be gunfire! What is the remedy? Well, one thing for sure people will not stop gathering/meeting just because of the potential of gunfire but if they would make themselves aware of the likelihood of this happening maybe, just maybe no one will get kilt (sic). We are never gonna stop and imagine the root cause of violence or even decide to address it, if we do. That would call for studies (already done), interventions (already tried), stop the violence signs (they are everywhere)and speeches, speeches, speeches, by mayors, counselors, preachers, soothsayers and such. A solution short of establishing a police state is not forthcoming. Soooo...we learn to live with the potential of imminent violent death as we attend events or just going to the store for a beer. This, my beloved, is how we live! Watch yourself, you'll be dead sooner than you think!

Why does this remind me of a proctologist and a urologist discussing the best way to trim fingernails?
