MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis Police officer is charged with accessing law enforcement databases of private information for illegal purposes.
36-year-old Sean Fritz was arrested and charged with two counts computer fraud and one count of false statements to a federal agency on January 10, 2012. According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Fritz is accused of accessing the FBI and National Crime Information Center's (NCIC) database to aid an unknown person for illegal purposes. When questioned, Fritz denied the act to FBI agents.
If convicted on all counts, Fritz faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and $750,000 in fines. He is currently relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Sean Fritz has served on the force since April 1997.
